Day four: the 30 day minimalism game

Well, so far so good. I’ve had a couple of ‘meeeh, I can’t find anything’ moments but actually I was just being lazy and not wanting to open a drawer because then I’d have to deal with everything that was in there. Have since got over myself. Items to date include:

Day two:

  • 2 x old oil burners that I haven’t used since I had my flat in Solihull (2001-2003).
  • CAT boots which I got when working for Caterpillar (again 2001-2003ish) but which then lived, unused, in several lofts until last year when I dog-walked them to death.

Day three:

  • This year’s Rocket Dogs, worn through.
  • A bag of wardrobe hinges from 2012/3 that have yet to ‘come in handy’.
  • A load of dead lightbulbs, with the tin as a bonus extra item!

Day four/five (Afflicted by Sunday-itis, nothing got canned yesterday, so I am making up for it today):

  • A bunch of pens, none of which work. It was nice to recall my life in marketing through the years by way of freebies though.
  • Miscellaneous tat, one from a Christmas cracker, two gifts from people I’m no longer in touch with.
  • Three bits of wood. Similar bits are propping up wonky furniture here and there, but I think these can go.
  • A half-eaten insole (the dog ate it, not me).
  • UHU spray. I know I bought this when I lived down south so it’s at least 18 years old. Also, it’s empty.
  • Ink cartridges for a fountain pen I no longer own.
  • A matchbox containing one match.
  • The packaging for a tiny screen cloth I’ve had for about 5 years.
  • An envelope containing a small number of glitter stars. I know I kept these because they were meaningful in some way at the time. Absolutely no idea now what that was.
  • The instructions and additional, unused fixings for a whiteboard I put up in my office around five years ago.
  • The box which contained a calligraphy set my brother bought me several years ago. The set itself lives on my shelf above my desk and gets used on a semi-regular basis (usually while I’m killing time waiting for client feedback). The box is there just in case, I guess?

Ok, so that’s actually 11 items today, when I only needed nine. I suppose I could have put two things back for tomorrow or another day but that seemed a bit pointless. I may regret this later in the month!
